Regulators in New York approved rules for sports betting that will allow those in the Empire State to bet at upstate casinos this summer.

The New York State Gaming Commission passed sports betting regulations by a unanimous 6-0 vote yesterday following the completion of the public comment period. Preliminary regulations were drafted at the end of January before entering the comment period.
Those rules need to be published in the State Register before the commission can start approving casinos for sports betting licenses. They could be published as early as June 26.
Once the regulations take effect, New York will have sportsbooks at Del Lago Resort, Resorts World Catskills, Rivers Casino, Tioga Downs and all of the tribal casinos in the states. While the complete set of regulations have not been published, it is being reported that bettors will not be allowed to wager on New York college teams or on collegiate events taking place within the state.
The lawmakers are now scrambling to pass one more piece of legislation that would allow expanded sports betting at off-track betting locations and allow for mobile and online sports betting. They have until the end of the week to pass the legislation, but it doesn’t look like it will happen.
Leading specialists have created the web-design of the casino.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo doesn’t support expansion. Recently, he said that he would be open to the discussion of expansion, but earlier in the year, he said that he doesn’t believe mobile betting is legal under the state constitution.
Members of the gaming commission agree with him.
“Our lawyers say you can’t do anything on sports betting other than in brick and mortar casinos,” Commission member Jerry Skurnik told the New York Post.
Early estimates say that operations should be underway by August 1, which would give New Yorkers the opportunity to bet on the upcoming NFL season.
New York becomes the 14th state to pass legal sports betting in some form.
